Before we met, my wife Amy was on the road with her family, singing her way around North and Central America.  They would be gone from their hometown of Grass Valley, California, for sometimes 3 months at a time.  After quitting their jobs, Amy and her 3 sisters traveled with their mom and dad for almost 5 years!!   And just two years ago they came to Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa where I met the family!  Amy and I hit it off and the rest is history!

Greg Laurie - "A New Beginning"
Monday - Friday - 8pm (EST)

Greg Laurie

Greg Laurie is the senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California began his pastoral ministry at the age of 19 by leading a Bible study of 30 people. Since then, God has transformed that small group into a church of some 15,000 people. Today, Harvest is ranked as one of the largest churches in America by Outreach magazine
(Outreach 100, 2011).

In 1990, Laurie began holding large-scale public evangelistic events called Harvest Crusades. Since that time, more than 4,744,000 people have attended Harvest Crusades across the United States, in locations ranging from the annual event at Angel Stadium, Calif., to Madison Square Garden in New York City. Harvest Crusade events have also been held in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Laurie is the featured speaker of the nationally-syndicated radio program, A New Beginning, which is broadcast on more than 500 radio outlets around the world. A New Beginning is also one of the most popular Christian podcast downloads on iTunes. Laurie is also featured
in a recently-launched weekly television program called GregLaurie.tv, which is available at GregLaurie.tv and can be viewed via the Harvest app for iPhone, iPad, or Android. The program also airs weekly on the Trinity Broadcasting Network, The Church Channel, and
NRB TV Network.

In addition to speaking and assisting other ministries, Laurie has authored over 70 books including Signs of the Times, As I See It, Hope for Hurting Hearts, Married.Happily.,Essentials, What Every Christian Needs to Know, Upside Down Living, The Greatest Stories
Ever Told, and many more. His autobiography, Lost Boy, was released in June 2008 by Regal Books. The accompanying documentary film, Lost Boy: The Next Chapter has won eight awards at International film festivals in the best documentary category. Laurie has been married to his wife Cathe for 38 years and has two sons, Christopher and Jonathan, and five grandchildren. His son, Christopher, died in a 2008 automobile accident at age 33.

Ken Graves - "God's Sword"
Monday - Friday - 8:30pm (EST)

Ken Graves

Ken Graves is the founding pastor of Calvary Chapel Bangor, Maine. He was born in Bangor in 1962, grew up in the area, and left at the age of sixteen to pursue training in the ministry. At twenty-two, he returned to Bangor with a call from God to present the Gospel and build a church in his own hometown. In 1991, a core of about twelve people began meeting in Ken's apartment for Bible study, prayer and fellowship. Today there are between nine and twelve hundred regular attendees who call Calvary Chapel Bangor their home.

In 1996, with the financial support of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, California, Calvary Chapel Bangor established a full power radio station: WJCX / 99.5 FM, and Ken Graves radio program "Godsword" went on the air. Listeners from all around central Maine started tuning in to the Calvary Satellite Network to hear Ken and a host of other pastors offering up a feast of God's word. The radio station has truly been a powerful tool in preaching the Gospel of Christ, making disciples and equipping people with Biblical knowledge. It has been a tremendous blessing to Calvary Chapel people as well as to the many other Bible believing churches in the area.

In 1992 the Godsword program began airing on television. There was no public access channel in the community until Calvary Chapel appealed to the home office of the Cable Company in New York and God gave them favor. With borrowed video equipment, a low budget show was produced, and Godsword was the first program to air on the new public access channel.

Pastor Ken reports, "Our show, Godsword, had an extremely simple format. I just sat in front of the camera, read the Bible and explained it in simple terms. And people responded to the invitation to come and join us for services."

In 1998 the opportunity to reach more homes by television presented itself. Godsword began airing on a local television station which reaches all of central Maine, a potential audience of over 350,000 people, or one quarter of the state's population.

In addition to the Gods word programs, Calvary Chapel Bangor has reached out to the community in a number of ways as God provides. Seven Oaks Training Center is a Christ centered residential discipleship program that works primarily with men who have drug and alcohol addictions. Blessed Hope is a similar program for women. God is doing great things in the lives of many people who previously knew nothing about the Lord or the Gospel. Many of these people were former law breakers and burdens to society but the Lord has transformed them into productive members of the community.

Calvary Chapel Bangor has also begun reaching out to students in the community. Calvary Chapel Christian School serves over two hundred students from pre-K to twelfth grade, and college Bible classes are beginning to be offered. Calvary Chapel Bangor is in the process of establishing a Christian daycare facility as well as a ministry training school. And it is involved in numerous outreach ministries including helping orphans in Chechnya, and the children of Uganda who are terrorized by the LRA.

God has been faithful and continues to provide for outreach ministries through the generosity of the people at Calvary Chapel. Offerings are received on the Lord's day only and the radio and television audiences are never asked for donations. Where God guides, He provides.
Here at Calvary Chapel Bangor, we are excited about what the Lord is doing. We are excited about the future and the opportunities before us.

Chuck Smith - "Word for Today"
Monday - Friday - 9:00pm (EST)

chuck smith

In March 1968, Smith brought into his home the then-18-year-old Pentecostal evangelist Lonnie Frisbee with his wife Connie. Chuck Smith paired him up with John Higgins who already had a Bible study going for youth; they started a Christian commune called "The House of Miracles." John and Lonnie went out into the community to reach its youth with the gospel during the early days of the Jesus movement.

The church in Santa Ana grew and, as of 2006, was attended by 35,000 people and had spawned over 1,000 churches that have branched out as part of the Calvary Chapel fellowship worldwide. Smith has been called "one of the most influential Christian pastors in Southern California" who "is known for training other prominent ministers." Notable ministers who have been mentored by Smith include Skip Heitzig, Mike MacIntosh, and Greg Laurie.

At its beginning, Calvary Chapel operated as a cross-cultural mission’s organization that bridged the "generation gap" as it existed during the Vietnam War period. Calvary Chapel was a hub of the "Jesus People" phenomenon that existed at that time and was featured in Time Magazine for its success among "hippies" and young people. Calvary Chapel pioneered a less formal and contemporary approach in its worship and public meetings; for example, it did outreaches on the beach, and baptisms in the Pacific Ocean. Much of Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) has its roots in Calvary Chapel worship music. Calvary Chapel's rolling commentary-style of preaching kept the Calvary Chapels close to the text of the Bible and was readily understandable by many hearers. Calvary Chapel developed its own internal training early for multiplication of church leaders and pastors; by pioneering a more informal and contemporary style in its church practices, Calvary Chapel reached large numbers in Costa Mesa, CA and expanded easily by adding many pastors and new congregations in many locations. The impact of Chuck Smith and Calvary Chapel on evangelical Christianity is profound, widespread, and largely unheralded. Rather than being a teacher of systems and methods of growing large churches (elements of which frustrated him in his denominational experience), Chuck Smith teaches the Bible at pastors' conferences modeling in word and deed what he feels is the critical core of Calvary Chapels.

A documentary, What God Hath Wrought, produced by Screen Savers Entertainment in collaboration with Smith, tells the story of Smith's life, the Calvary Chapel movement and its influence on modern-day Christianity.

Chuck Smith is the author and co-author of several books; titles of his books include Answers for Today; Calvary Chapel Distinctives; Calvinism, Arminianism & The Word of God; Charisma vs. Charismania; Comfort for Those Who Mourn; Effective Prayer Life; Harvest; Living Water; The Claims of Christ; The Gospel According to Grace; The Philosophy of Ministry of Calvary Chapel; Why Grace Changes Everything; Love: The More Excellent Way; The Final Act; and others.

In addition to serving on numerous advisory boards, Bill is an original signer of the Manhattan Declaration.

CONGRESSIONAL CAMPAIGNS: Bill's campaign for Congress in 2000 was key in keeping the U.S. House in majority control, as his opponent, Minority Leader Dick Gephardt, had to give up plans of campaigning for other candidates. Gephardt boasted of being the next "Speaker" but instead had his toughest re-election, spending $6 million against Federer's $3 million from 35,000 contributors across America, in the nation's 3rd most expensive Congressional race that year.(US News & World Report, 11/7/06, listed nationally among the most expensive House races of 2000 & 2004). President Bush's uncle, William H.T. "Bucky" Bush, co-chaired Bill's finance committee. Speaker Dennis Hastert, Majority Leader Dick Army, Conference Chairman J.C. Watts, Jr., Ambassador Alan Keyes, Phyllis Schlafly, William J. Murray, David Limbaugh, Chief Justice Roy Moore and other national leaders campaigned for Bill. Written and/or radio endorsements were received from Pat Boone, Chuck Norris, Ted Nugent, Art Linkletter and Dr. James Dobson. "Highly effective political machinery" was Gephardt's reluctant admission of Federer in an appeal letter, as Bill received the most votes ever against him! The same week Bill won in court against Gephardt's machine, Gephardt announced he would not seek re-election. Bill ran in 2004, winning Jefferson County and receiving 47% of the vote, the highest number of votes received in Missouri's 3rd Congressional District by a Republican since statehood.

BIOGRAPHY: Born October 1, 1957, Bill was raised in south St. Louis, 5th of eleven children, Bill lettered in wrestling, football and was a state finalist in track-high hurdles. He graduated from St. Louis University High School ('76), studied at University of Dallas, Texas ('76-`78); in Rome, Italy ('78), and graduated from Saint Louis University (`80) with a degree in Accounting/Business Administration.

After college, Bill worked for Federer Realty, founded in 1913 by his grandfather, William A. Federer, who was president of the St. Louis Board of Realtors, as was his father Richard L. Federer, building large portions of the city and county. His uncle and namesake taught at St. Louis University, led retreats at White House Retreat Center and worked with native Americans, seniors and inner-city poor. His father's cousin, Charles A. Federer, Jr., was founder of Sky & Telescope Magazine at Harvard.

Bill worked in real estate, oil & gas industry (Santa Fe Industries `81-`84), and held positions with community organizations, charity groups, churches - working with youth, families, elderly and minorities. He served as a Scoutmaster, having been an Eagle Scout.

FAMILY: Bill married his high school sweetheart, Susan Maria Misko, on May 2, 1981. Susan received the Jefferson Award for Outstanding Community Service by U.S. Senator John Danforth in 1980 for being spokesperson of the Missouri/Illinois Red Cross Blood Services and working with elderly/handicapped. Sue graduated with honors from Cor Jesu High School ('76), Fontbonne College ('80), worked for St. Louis Union Trust. Sue became a licensed real estate, an insurance agent, and is a broker-specialist. Bill and Sue have four grown children.

REVIEWS: Paul Weyrich reviewed Bill's book ENDANGERED SPEECHES

Ray Comfort - "On the Box"
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday Sunday - 10:00pm (EST)

Ray Comfort

Pastor Ray Comfort
Ray Comfort is a New Zealand-born Christian minister and evangelist. Comfort started Living Waters Publications and The Way of the Master in Bellflower, California and has written a number of books.
Comfort was born to a Jewish mother and a father who he described as "a Gentile [who] was open to the things of God.” According to Comfort's autobiography, his parents put "Methodist" on his birth certificate because his mother feared the possibility of "another Hitler", but he was given no religious instruction as a child. After finishing high school at 17, he worked in a bank, and began a successful business when he was 20. He became increasingly religious, and at 22 began seven years training at a local church, after which he was ordained as a full-time pastor. He then spent three and a half years pastoring in Christchurch, New Zealand, and 12 years preaching open-air in the city's Speaker's Corner. Beyond this, he has no formal training or theological degree. In his mid-20s, he began receiving invitations to speak internationally. In 1989, he accepted an invitation to join the pastoral staff at the non-denominational Calvary Chapel in Southern California. Ray Comfort nonetheless identifies himself as a Jew.

Comfort says that evangelism is the main reason the Christian Church exists and that many of the evangelistic methods used over the last century have produced false conversions to Christianity. Comfort often uses the Ten Commandments to speak about sin before presenting the gospel of Jesus. In the mid-1980s he formulated two sermons entitled "Hell's Best Kept Secret" and "True and False Conversions."

Comfort speaks professionally at churches and evangelism seminars, and preaches in Huntington Beach, California. As well as co-hosting the former The Way of the Master Radio with Kirk Cameron, he is co-host of The Way of the Master Television Show, and the "Creationism Examiner" on The Examiner.  Comfort and Cameron were also involved in rewriting parts of the film, Left Behind II: Tribulation Force.

According to Comfort, he has designed dozens of gospel tracts since the 1970s, and sells millions of Living Waters tracts each year. Comfort has also authored The Way of The Master, God Doesn't Believe in Atheists, How to Know God Exists and Evolution: the Fairy Tale for Grownups. His 2009 book, You Can Lead an Atheist to Evidence, But You Can't Make Him Think, is Comfort's first book published by WND Books, Comfort went on a promotional tour to promote the book, which Amazon.com ranked No. 1 in the atheism and apologetics categories, No. 2 in spirituality and No. 6 in Christianity when it debuted in February 2009. On 22 September 2009, Comfort released his latest book, Nothing Created Everything.
